In 2012 I wrote my first short story in a creative writing class.
My teacher and mentor Eury, when asked how I could get better just shrugged her shoulders and said "Write more."
I am forever grateful I took that advice to heart.
In fact for the first year of writing I didn't even have a laptop.
I couldn't afford one.
So, I walked around with a pen and notebook in hand, writing whenever inspiration took (even on a bus going round lots of corners)
In 2020 I started a Youtube channel for Job Ready English.
Having spent lots of money on a fancy website, I didn't have anything left for filming kit or mics.
So, I filmed the first 50ish videos either sitting at a desk, or walking through a field.
The next 50 or so, were filmed with some sort of backdrop, a ringlight and a basic mic.
Today the set up is semi-professional.
But any skill acquisition starts with the willingness to do an unreasonable amount of repetitions.
Alongside, not making a decision on the "results" until you have met the specified number of units.
A neat blend of science and sheer pig headedness.
So, next time you think about doing something.
Think.
a) Am I willing to do this 100 times?
Discard 99% of things
Then do the thing, and make a decision once the 100 reps are done.
